Mark 9:50"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."Jesus used salt to illustrate 3 qualities that should be found in his people:-
1. We should remember God's faithfulness, just as salt when used with a sacrifice recalled God's Covenant with his people (Lev 2:13)Lev 2:13Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.
In Arab countries, an agreement is sealed with a gift of salt to show strength and permanence of the contract. Let the salt you use each day remind you that you are on e of God's Covenant people, who actively help preserve and purify the world.2. We should make a difference in the "flavor" of the world we live in, just as salt changes meat's flavor (Matt 5:13)Matt 5:13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.If seasoning has no flavor, it has no value. If we Christians make no effort to affect the world around them, they are of little value to God. If we are too much like the world we are worthless. Christians should not blend in with everyone else. Instead we should affect others positively just as seasoning brings out the best flavor in food.
3. We should counteract the moral decay in society, just as salt preserves food from decay. When we lose this desire to "salt" the earth with the love and message if God, we become useless to Him
Luke 14:34-35
"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Salt can lose its flavor. When it gets wet and then dries, nothing is left but a tasteless residue. Many Christians blend into the world and avoid the cost of standing up for Christ. But Jesus says if Christians lose their distinctive saltiness, they become worthless. Just as salt flavors and preserve food, we are to preserve the good in the world and bring new flavor to life. This requires careful planning, willing sacrifice and unswerving commiment to Christ Kingdom. But if a Christian fails to be "salty" he or she fails to represent Christ in the world.
During our cg discussion we talked about how people are selfish and how the country's moral standards are fast decaying, and i couldn't help but feel discourage, to feel so small and helpless that I can't make a difference at the workplace. Especially in the area of office politics, as Christians what is out stand?as Christians what are we suppose to do about it?How do we go about it? I went to God for answers, the only place that can give me the answer i need is the bible. i hope this post will help you in your struggles of being Salt of the earth.
